This year is a big one for Apple and its developers. It’s the year where Apple will clear the way forward for iPad, which wants to be a computer and Mac, that is not a computer.
For a few years now, Apple is testing a new framework that makes easy to port iOS apps to Mac OS. The project name is marzipan(cool name). It happens in stages, slowly, and tomorrow, we will see Apple show off how to port iPad apps to Mac. Marzipan aims to unite the App store experience where developers can build a single app that can run in the iPhone, iPad, Mac with just little tweaks, and users can download any apps from any Apple hardware.
The iPad feels closer to bridge the gap between a laptop and tablet than Surface or Pixelbook. With iOS 13, iPad will become a near-perfect replacement for laptops. iOS 13 will bring much-needed cursor, efficient multitasking, multi-window apps, and better files management to iPad. If these features come to the iPad, then the bridge will sure be closed.
Yes, iPhone will also get some significant changes with iOS 13, but don’t get your hopes high for that. It will be getting a dark mode, that’s for sure, but features like multitasking, PiP mode, profound design changes for the iPhone are still dubious.
