The buzzword for 2019 is 5G. Every major telecom carrier in the US and smartphone manufacturers are scrambling to bring this technology to the consumers as fast as possible. Apple, which boasts in innovating the future will be the last to catch the 5G train.

The problem began when Qualcomm and Apple quarreled into a legal battle that effectively broke the tie between them, and making Apple switch to Intel modem chips altogether in 2017. The fight has become one of the worst in tech history with no end in sight. Qualcomm released their 5g modem chip in 2018, and every premium smartphone manufacturers are making 5G phones with Qualcomm chips except Apple. Apple is waiting on Intel to deliver their 5G chips which will result in 5G iPhone only in 2020 as Intel lags behind Qualcomm. 2020 looks good as the 5G technology will be mature enough for Apple, but recent reports indicate that Intel is struggling to meet the 2020 deadline which puts Apple in a difficult spot.
